Kitchen Refurbishment Questions
Can you move the kitchen to a different part of the house?
Usually. The things that decide it are the drainage run for the sink, the route for the extractor duct and the gas or electrical supply for the cooker. We look at all three on the first visit and tell you what is practical.
Do I need building regulations approval for a new kitchen?
Not for replacing units like for like. New electrical circuits must be certified, gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and removing a wall or adding new drainage is controlled work. We arrange all of it.
Can you take out the wall between the kitchen and dining room?
In most houses, yes. If the wall is load bearing, a structural engineer sizes a steel beam to carry what is above it and building control inspects the work before it is covered.
